No. Each of the hauling companies that make up the Association are individually owned and operate independently. Under the waste franchise agreement, collection rates are set by local governments. The Mid Valley Haulers Association advocates for rates that provide fair compensation for haulers and stable costs for our neighbors; within that set rate, each hauling company has their own individual margins and must work to provide a high standard of service at the best price.

The Mid Valley Haulers Association promotes collaboration among Marion County’s eight individually owned waste collection companies to improve and advance local waste management. Together we:

  • Share information and implement strategies to create a healthy local waste system and support our members
  • Ensure area service needs are communicated and efficiently met
  • Promote community awareness of responsible waste practices
  • Advocate for local governments to set rates that provide both fair compensation for haulers and low cost for our neighbors

In a franchise system, waste collection is operated by local companies—in Marion County, the eight individually owned haulers that make up the Mid Valley Haulers Association—under a franchise agreement with area governments. These local governments determine each hauler’s territory, and the agreement also sets service levels, pricing, and performance standards.

Marion County operates under a waste franchise system. This means that local hauling companies are contracted by the county to provide waste services to specific areas throughout the region.
