About Us

Working together to create a healthy and sustainable waste management system.

Nearly 40 years ago, Marion County’s eight individually owned waste hauling companies came together to form the Mid Valley Haulers Association. What began as a unified move toward modern waste collection methods continues to serve both haulers and local residents by increasing efficiency, ensuring a high standard of service, and advocating for fair rates.

As a collective, we work to bring solutions for all of Marion County’s waste needs. Because together, we can do more and go further—for haulers, and for the people of our community.

Our Guiding Principles

Long-Term Success

Through collaborative efforts to identify and solve local waste needs, we work to build a strong future, not just for our individual companies, but for our community.

Contribution to Community

As individual companies, and as a collective, we look for opportunities to serve our neighbors through elevated service, waste education, and lending support to local initiatives.

Service Quality

We work to make sure each hauler in our collective has the information and resources they need to provide effective and efficient service.

Healthy Local Businesses

We want each company we represent to thrive. That’s why we advocate for fair compensation and support haulers in collaborating to address their evolving needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Marion County operates under a waste franchise system. This means that local hauling companies are contracted by the county to provide waste services to specific areas throughout the region.

To find which hauler serves your neighborhood, use our Find My Hauler tool.

In a franchise system, waste collection is operated by local companies—in Marion County, the eight individually owned haulers that make up the Mid Valley Haulers Association—under a franchise agreement with area governments. These local governments determine each hauler’s territory, and the agreement also sets service levels, pricing, and performance standards.

No. Each of the eight hauling companies that serve Marion County are individually owned. Many of them are multi-generational small businesses that have served the region for decades. Learn more on our Haulers page.

The Mid Valley Haulers Association promotes collaboration among Marion County’s eight individually owned waste collection companies to improve and advance local waste management. Together we:

  • Share information and implement strategies to create a healthy local waste system and support our members
  • Ensure area service needs are communicated and efficiently met
  • Promote community awareness of responsible waste practices
  • Advocate for local governments to set rates that provide both fair compensation for haulers and low cost for our neighbors

No. Each of the hauling companies that make up the Association are individually owned and operate independently. Under the waste franchise agreement, collection rates are set by local governments. The Mid Valley Haulers Association advocates for rates that provide fair compensation for haulers and stable costs for our neighbors; within that set rate, each hauling company has their own individual margins and must work to provide a high standard of service at the best price.

No. While MVHA advocates for rates that provide fair compensation for haulers and stable costs for residents, under Marion County’s waste franchise system all waste fees are regulated by local governments and county and city commissioners set local collection rates.
